Philippians 2:12-13
Therefore, my dear ones, as you have always obeyed [my suggestions], so now, not only in my presence but more because I am absent, work out your own salvation with reverence and awe and trembling.
Not in your own strength for it is God Who is all the while effectually at work in you [energizing and creating in you the power and desire], both to will and to work for His good pleasure and satisfaction and delight.
Paul was readying the people for his departure from this earth.
He gave them sound advice to help them develop Godly independence.
They needed their own relationship with Christ and gave them three points to consider.
First, he told them to work out their salvation with reverence to God.
Sometimes I don’t approach the Lord with all the reverence due Him.
He is Almighty God, and we should approach Him with utmost reverence and honor.
Second, Paul advises the people to work out their salvation with awe.
Our God is an awesome God but sometimes I am not as much in awe of Him as I should be.
I don’t always give Him the praise He deserves.
I blame my disappointments on God when I’m really just disappointed that my plan didn’t align with His.
God is a God Who does not disappoint.
His plan is better for us than any plan we may have for ourselves.
Lastly, Paul tells the people to work out their salvation with trembling.
The Amplified Bible defines trembling to be, “self-distrust, with serious caution, and watchfulness against temptation.”
We’ll never perfect this side of heaven.
Paul encourages us to be aware of our humanness and temptation to err.
Our second verse says, “Not in your own strength for it is God Who is all the while effectually at work in you [energizing and creating in you the power and desire], both to will and to work for His good pleasure and satisfaction and delight.”
God will strengthen us to do all these things Paul suggests.
Today I choose to believe God strengthens me to do all He asks me to do and helps me find true salvation through His Son, Jesus Christ.
May you find the Lord strengthens you to do all He asks of you, and you find salvation through His Son, Jesus Christ.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, thank You for sending Your Son to save us from our sins. Thank You for making a way for us to be in relationship with You. Thank You for doing a work in us. We pray You continue to do a work in us. Help us find true salvation through Your Son. Make us the people You desire us to be. Fill our spirits with Yours, Lord. Help us be more like You. Help us learn more about the desires of Your heart. Help us see with Your eyes and love with Your heart. Help us be Your hands and serve those You ask us to serve. May we be obedient to You in every way, Father. Help us bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing our prayer.
Answer: I gave you My Son so that you will always be Mine. Make Him your Savior and King of Your hearts.
Response: Help us fully surrender our hearts to Jesus, Lord. Amen
