John 11:4
“When Jesus received the message, He said, This sickness is not to end in death; but [on the contrary] it is to honor God and to promote His glory, that the Son of God may be glorified through (by) it.”
Life gets messy.
Real messy.
Our passage encouraged me today in the midst of the messy.
This is the story of Lazarus who was sick, eventually died, and was then resurrected by Jesus.
His sisters found and told Jesus of their brother’s illness.
He was their only hope.
Of course, we know Jesus stayed away even longer, so that Lazarus would actually die.
Why?
According to Jesus, it was to “honor God and to promote His glory.”
Mary and Martha were beside themselves with grief when Lazarus died.
They couldn’t imagine why Jesus had not come.
They didn’t know why He wasn’t there to heal their brother.
After all, Jesus loved him.
We know Jesus did eventually go to Lazarus when all hope seemed gone.
But that was Jesus’ plan.
To bring Lazarus back from the dead in order to glorify God.
In difficult times, when all hope seems gone, I wonder where Jesus is too.
I feel abandoned.
And when the circumstances cannot possibly get any worse, I begin to wonder why He hasn’t come to save me.
But just about the time I feel like I’m going to break, he drops in with a miracle.
Right at the 11th hour.
His 11th hour.
I mean I think I know when my 11th hour is, but even that isn’t His.
I still get frightened even when I know that’s exactly when He likes to show up.
He knows just when to show up.
He knows how long we can hang on.
He knows when the time is ripe for the miracle.
Until then, we must hang on.
Hang onto the One Who will never leave us.
We are never destitute even when it feels like we are.
His plan is always perfect.
Today I choose to be hopeful even in the messiness of life.
May you find the Lord is working in every circumstance of your life, and He is working on the perfect miracle for you.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, my God, thank You for watching over me and protecting me. Thank You for working in every circumstance of my life. Thank You for working even when I cannot see You. Increase my faith and help me know I will find You when things look messy. I will find You in the miracle. You are my Strong Tower. You are my Shield. And You are my Comfort. May I sit in the shadow of Your wings. May Your arms wrap around me, and Your mercy be upon me. Thank You for being the One Who I can go to when my heart is hurting, and my emotions are high. Keep me stead all day long, Father. Help me bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing my prayer.
Answer: I AM with you My child and am working out every circumstance of your life.
Response: Thank You, Almighty God and Father.
